The Making Of...... Colour Correction.

We are coming to the end of the editing of our 1st draft. All the clips are in place in-sync with the music. All we have to do now is add some CC (Colour Correction) to make the clips look good because without it the shots are quite bland. The night shots due to the camera have a lot of noise gain on them which is quite difficult to remove.

The Making Of...... Typography.

The typography part of our music video was the most time consuming out of all the parts of editing . It took Ramtin around 2 hours to put the text in and then to sync with the song with some more diverse transitions for some of the words. The typography was quite basic, compared to others in professional music videos, so it didn't take too long compared to others.

Filming Day 2.

Today was the day we filmed all of the night scenes after filming all of the day scenes yesterday. Today was again a successful day as we managed to film of the shots we needed for all three locations. Even though it was cold out at night we got all the shots we needed quickly and Ramtin took the camera home to edit them together and finalize the video. As it was winter we headed out early at 5pm as it was already getting dark, and to avoid any trouble or problems we tried to finish as quickly as possible without slacking on the amount of content we got.

The Beginning of Editing.

Today me and Ramtin began the editing of our music video. As me and Ramtin are quite good at editing through experience of doing it last year. Out of the two of us though, Ramtin will be most of the editing, as I feel out of the two of us, he did the better job on the film opening last year. Ramtin and I will be using Sony Vegas 9 & After Effects CS3.

Filming Day 1.

Today me and Ramtin set off filming for the first time. We filmed at all three of the locations, between the hours of 9am until 12pm. We managed to film everything we needed which is excellent progress. We will film the second half of the video at night in the same locations at a later date. As you can see from the images below, the weather wasn't perfect, but we can't control the weather and it doesn't matter too much.

Here are some images from today:

Risk Assessment.

Car Park.

When in the car park we have to be careful of cars that are using the car park, and as we are on the roof of the car park and it is quite high up, we have to be careful of not going to close to the edge and being silly as it is a big drop!

Around The Town.

When we film around Windsor Town, we have to be careful when we film at night, making sure we are safe and no one feels threatened by us or the camera. We have to choose the location correctly and make sure it safe. In the day time, the risk is allot less as there will be more people around.

Bridge Over the Motorway.

Again this is a fairly dangerous location if we are not careful and act stupid. The Motorway we will be over is the M4 which is a major and busy motorway. Again in the day it is allot safer as we can see what we are doing clearer. At night we must be careful not to cause any injures or accidents, and on the bridge we must be very serious about the possible danger.

Actor Update.

After talking to our planned actor Dan, we have decided it would be best if we did the video without him after we realized that he wouldn't be able to attend the filming sessions. Therefore I stepped up to the plate and decided to be the main actor, although it's disappointing, it makes filming easier as I know the lyrics to the song and know the look me and Ramtin are going for.

Location 3 | Motorway Bridge.

Here are two pictures from the location of the third part of our video. It is located above the M4 motorway, which is good as it add's more shots and as the motorway is a busy one, it will look good at night with the car lights. The bridge is also very quiet and no one really uses it, which again is good for us as we can film at any time and no one will be there. At night the bridge is well illuminated so it is easy to film, and will look good when we film.

Location 2 | Walkway.

Here is the second location of our music video. We like the fact it is symmetrical and we also plan to use this location for our digi-pack. At night it looks very nice as lights which are suspended in the air come on it looks very nice. Again just like the car park location it there is easy access.

Location 1 | Car Park Roof.

Here is the location of the first scene, we decided on this spot as it was high up and had a good view of Windsor which we wanted. The location is easily accessible at both day & night, and at night there is good visibility from the lights in the car park.

Day And Night Lyrics

Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh...

Day and night (what, what)
I toss and turn, I keep stressing my mind, mind (what, what)
I look for peace but see I don't attain (what, what)
What I need for keeps this silly game we play, play
Now look at this (what, what)
Madness to magnet keeps attracting me, me (what, what)
I try to run but see I'm not that fast (what, what)
I think I'm first but surely finish last, last

[Chorus:]
Cuz day and night
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at night
He's all alone through the day and night
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night (at, at, at night)
Day and night
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at night
He's all alone, some things will never change (never change)
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night (at, at, at night)

Hold the phone (what, what)
The lonely stoner, mr. solo doe low (what, what)
He's on the move can't seem to shake the shade (what, what)
Within his dreams he see's the life he made, made
The pain is deep (what, what)
A silent sleeper you won't hear a peep, peep (what, what)
The girl he wants don't see no one into (what, what)
It seems the feelings that she had are through, through

[Chorus:]
Cuz day and night
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at night
He's all alone through the day and night
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night (at, at, at night)
Day and night
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at night
He's all alone, some things will never change (yeah) (never change)
The lonely loner seems to free his(yeah) mind at night (at, at, at night)

Slow moe, (what, what)
When the temple slows up and creates that new, new (what, what)
He seems alive though he is feeling blue (what, what)
The sun is shining man he's super cool, cool
The lonely nights (what, what)
They fade away he slips into his white nights (what, what)
He smokes a clip and then he's on the way (what, what)
To free his mind in search of,
To free his mind in search of,
To free his mind in search of,

At, at, at night.

Digi-pack Practice.

Here are two practice attempts at our digipack, me and Ramtin worked on this together, and it came out well, we have allot of the digi-pack conventions on like the bonus tracks and exclusive footage. The theme of 'Day 'n' Nite' is clear to see as one half is day and the other night.

For the final digi-pack we are required to use only images we have taken. So we plan to do the same theme and replace the images with our own.

Magazine Advert Analysis.

Here is a magazine advert for the artist Gwen Stefani, it is promoting her new album which the advert states it si avalible through download and album. The advert doesn't state the release of the album which only presume that the album is available already. , but it does state two songs which is featured on the album, they are "What you waiting for?" and "Rich Girl", this help promotes the album by stating the two singles which have been released proir to the album. This help sells the album, the style of the album and the way Gwen Stefani is presented on the advert as royalty hinting the fact she is the queen of hip-hop, as she is popular and successful . Gwen Stefani is presented as royalty by sitting on a throne and holding a crown, which is the theme of the album. It also shows Gwen Stefani's record company (Target) and website (http://www.gwenstefani.com/) to promote the companies.

Here is the magazine advert for the single "Love is Noise" by the artist The Verve. The advert clearly states that the single is out now to buy, and it says the formats it is available in CD, Vinyl and Download. The whole feel of the magazine advert is relaxed and calm, with a nice relaxing picture of the clouds, the artwork on the advert clearly shows what feel the album has, this helps the album sell as an advert is all about selling the product you have. The bands information is also displayed on the advert, the record company, "Parlophone" and the bands website, www.theverve.com.

From analyzing these two magazine adverts, I learnt that it is important to sell the album through a picture or a theme, which seems hard but is very is entirely possible. To do this you have to match the style and feel of the album and try to present that trough an image, The Verve do this well in with the picture they use, conveying a relaxed theme to it. It is also important that the magazine adverts sow what music label the artist represents, this means that when people see the logo of the music label, they will know what kind of music it is and what other artist's they are similar too, again helping to sell the album to people who haven't heard of the band before.

Photoshop -Magazine Advert (Practice)

I was the creator of this practice magazine advert which we decided to make so we could outline what our  final magazine advert would look like once we came to making it.
We made this using the general conventions of a magazine advert which generically include a bold main image, the date of the album's release, album name, song name, name of the artist/band and the record label they are on. Using images found on the internet, we followed these conventions and I managed to come up with this design on computer from the initial sketch I did.

Demographics & Psycho-graphics.

The song we have chosen falls under the genre of "Alternative hip hop" which is a sub-genre of "hip hop". This is because the song contains many different conventions and some of which are new to the hip hop genre forcing it into a sub-genre. Some musicologists believe that in this day and age 70% of hip-hop is bought by white listeners. The average listener's age is around 19-34, from a range of nationalities, ethnic groups and religions. Their collective spending power is $500 billion annually in the US alone. Music is much harder than films to determine demographics for because there are so many people to account for and most of these people will varied in themselves.
37% of 15-25-year-olds in China love hip hop according to several studies. According to Chinese government statistics, the 15-29 demographic makes up 22.8% of the population and seeing as we’re talking about China, that’s around 296 million people, a core hip hop demographic about the same size as the entire United States.

Music demographics are most of the time made up of assumptions made by the general public, it can be closely related to stereotypes and which listen to what kind of music.
Going off stereotypes and the kind of people who like hip hop. I would have to take a guess that the Psychographics of the people who listen to hip hop/alt hip hop are..

  • Aspirers: People who want to get onto the latest trend.
  • Strivers: Status oriented people who seek money, approval and social status. Obvious buyers of aspirational goods.
  • Explorers: seek novelty and want to try new things. They are likely to be early adopters of completely new products.

    Magazine Advert Sketch (Practice)

Here is a basic sketch of our idea for the magazine advert we will produce. It is a very basic drawing, but the general idea will be the same, but the layout and positions of items may move and change.

    Contacting Kid Cudi

Ramtin sent Kid Cudi a "tweet" on twitter.com asking for his permission to use his song, "Day 'N' Nite" for our music video. We are still awaiting a reply from Kid Cudi, who's real name is Scott Mescudi. We were not expecting a reply from his personal twitter account, so we also contacted his record label, G.O.O.D Music, as they are more in control of where his songs can be used. We are still waiting for a reply.

    Storyboards.

Here are our storyboards for our music video, as you can see they are not to specific and detailed as us ourselves don't really know what camera angles we are going to use until we get to the location. But these help us understand how many shots we need and what types, and can tell us if we need more shots when we show them to our teacher, but these are a work in progress. Sorry for the standard of the drawings, I have never been to much of an artist.
